We’re not that different after all… (EC)

I wish everyone could understand this. We’re all human, and we all live our different lives but experience many of the same things. Whether you laugh on a regular basis or just on occasion, it is still laughter. Laughter ties us together. Whether it is a man or a woman that you love, or anywhere in between, it is still love. Love ties us together. You may hope for a better life for yourself, or someones else, you may hope for something that no one else has ever hoped for, but it is still hope. Hope ties us together. Whether it be trying with all your effort and not succeeding, or just simply trying and succeeding, it is still trying, and we all try at something at some point in life. Trying ties us together. If you hurt once in a while, if you hurt all the time, if you cause others to hurt, or have been hurt by another, it is still hurt, and we all hurt sometime or another. Hurt ties us together. Whether you need the basics of life such as food and shelter, or you need somebody to hold you tight and tell you that everything is going to be alright, it is still need. Need ties us together. Whether you fear death, clowns, heights, darkness, or what may lie ahead in life, it is still fear. Fear ties us together. You may cry out of happiness, fear, anger, sadness or despair, or you nay just cry because life feels like more than you can handle, it is still tears that fall. Crying ties us together. We all do these things in some form or another. So we’re really not that different, me and you. Think about that next time you want to judge someone for being different… we’re not that different after all.

I love this quote. I find often that when I do have regrets it is more often than not regretting not doing somethingthan regretting doing another. Really this is one of the best pieces of advice one could ever receive. Sometimes, the best thing you could ever do is to just jump right in and do the first thing that comes to mind. Thinking can make you worry too much, and worring causes you to not do. Although it is never very good to act wihtout thinking, sometimes there is a limit to the amount of thinking that you should do. Just do it! Explore, dream, and discover yourself and the world around you.

The Suds Back Home (EC)

Back home in Holland, MI, in Ottawa County, it was just passed that alcohol can now be sold on Sundays. Previously, alcohol sales at stores, and at bars had to cease by 2am on Sundays and could not start back up until open of business hours on Mondays. Ottawa County, Michigan, is a highly republican part of Michigan, one of the few. It was surprising to me when Yes to Sundays passed in the recent election. I think this had to do largely with it being a college town–home to Hope College campus. In a recent article by the Holland Sentinel it was explained that the serving of alcoholic drink will begin this coming Sunday, November 23, 2008. Although they are now allowed to sell alcoholic drinks, it will only be from the tap. Labeled bottles and can will not be sold, but are allowed to be sold. Yes, it is confusing. Michigan requires a separate alcohol license to sell labels on Sunday, and because it was against the Ottawa County ordinance to sell it in the past, no one had obtained one of these licenses. It may take a while before you will see labels being sold on Sundays in Holland, but it will happen. It is expected that the bars will be busy on this Sunday because Hollanders will be excited about the new change.

Movie

I remeber them talking alot about the Columbine High School shooting. They talked also alot about Michigan and guns. Apparently Michigan is the place to hunt. The movie, in my opinion was quite boring. They used a lot of things from other sources, and other people research, opinions, and facts. I think if you want to make a good point, you have to personalize it. I remeber them using lots of emotional appeal–once using a dog, another using 9-11, and yet another using the Columbine shooting. I feel lat is not a good way to make your point.

History Has Been Made

I am very satisfied with the way this election has turned out. The first thing is the record voter turn out, and how many young people, and first time voters voiced their opinions.

I really do believe that Barack Obama will bring about the much needed change this country needs. John McCain would have just been another George Bush in office, and he did not have the experience of qualifications necessary to be the president of the United States of America. What would happen if there were to be a terrorist attack while the president was napping? What about if John McCain were to pass away while in office. Sarah Palin is not ready to run a country. Some say she cannot even run a family. Repeatedly when she was asked the explain the duties of a Vice President, she has no idea and answered incorrectly. Sarah Palin only graduated with a Bachelors in Journalism. So she thinks because she can write, and be Governor of Alaska that she could run the Country. Speaking of education, john McCain’s only education was through the military, and he graduated fifth from the bottom of his class of approximately three hundred people. He does not have a good hold on the country economic crisis either. Barack Obama being president has shown a large step in the process of overcoming discrimination.

I am also satisfied with the way that the proposals turned out. It wouldn’t effect me much whether or not proposal 1 passes, but I am happy it did. Proposal 2, about stem cell research, also passed. I think that was the right choice. The stipulations listed directly on the ballots tell that the stem cells with not be misused, nor will they be obtained through any extreme measures. Scientists and researchers are mearly using eggs that women voluntarily submitted for personal fertility studies that were in excess. Those eggs would have simply been thrown away, but are now going to be used to help cure diseases, and maybe even say the life of your loved ones.

I do think people need to be more open minded, and learn to trust. People need to be less traditional, forget about the way things were done in the past. They way things have been done in the past may have been sufficient then, but not now days. Many other things have changed, and we need to be flexible with that change. We, as a country, as a people, and as the people preparing the world for generations to come, need to be willing to overcome past issues, and deal with the present.

Ten Pet Peeves

1. Kicking my seat in a movie theater, at a restaurant booth, on airplane, etc.

2. When you can hear some’s music clearly through their headphones; the purpose of headphones is to listen to the music yourself, and not make everyone else hear it.

3. People talking in a movie theater during the movie, especially when they have seen it already and are telling the person they are with what is going to happen next.

4. When people mumble

5. When people laugh ridiculously loud (especially on the when on the phone) in public places that are generally a quiet atmoshpere (i.e. restaurants, waiting rooms, etc.)

6. When parents let their kids do whatever they want to in public, and make to attempt to control them. (i.e. running up and down the isles of a grocery store)

7. When people rudely talk over you. For example if you are ina group of four people (or other small group) in a small area talking, and only two of the other people are listening, so the third tries to start their ALown conversation

8. People who always have to be right.

9. Pessimistic people, or people who cannot see things from anothers point of view.

10. Fake people–people who act one way one time, and completely different another time, just to impress the other people they are with.

Political Signage Clutter (EC)

Considering yesterday was the day that popular vote chose Barack Obama as the 44th president of the United States, my opinion of the week ought to be a political one. I am going to be anti-political in this opinion; I am sick of all this political crap. I am sick of changing the channel every time a political advertisment came on, because I basically had them memorized. I am sick of the hideous clutter in peoples yards promoting their candidate. Yes, support is a wonderful thing, and America is a wonderful country, but I am glad to get my life back.

Country Music

Country music is the best medicine. What ever has got you down, there is bound to be a country song written about it. Contrary to popular belief, country music is not all about losing your dog, your wife, your truck, your house, and going to jail. It also can boost your mood, remind you of all the good things. One song about all the good things in life is Chicken Fried by the Zac Brown Band.

“Cold beer on a Friday night

And the radio up”

When I hear that song it makes me happy. I don’t know about you, but I know that some good music, great friends, and an amazing fitting pair of jeans, could make me happy any day. I grew up listening to country music, so whenever I get the chance to listen to it, memories of a care-free time are brought back. Country music can hit home for virtually everyone, if people can get past thier damn stereotypes of it.
